Easter Camp 2007

Break Camp - Group Photo 1

This year's camp was special and enjoyable for many different reasons. Each year, brings new friends and a whole different feeling. Rather than hanging on to moments of the past, I am learning and am thankful to experience the new feelings, emotions, friendships of those who came.

Three days of nonstop laughter and smiles. Three days of getting to know each other, I thank God and I pray that this is just the beginning of many new and special friendships. While I am sad that people are graduating and leaving, I will also do my best to step out of my comfort zone and be the friend that others have been to me. For this is the spirit of COSDU; embracing one and all.

Each Easter Camp that Cosdu has is indeed different and we all take away different things from it. With this year's camp theme "Let's Walk the Walk", the sessions during the Camp, which was of a contemplative nature, collectively prompted us to reflect upon the place in which we were at - in our awareness of ourselves, in our personal goals, in our relationships with others, and most of all, in our relationship with God - and striving ahead to consider steps to take towards our journeys in different aspects of our lives.

Most of the sessions were centred around in-depth sharing among the participants who we were grouped with, and from each other's input, we were spurred on and encouraged to ponder upon the obstacles in our walk with God and our journey with the community.

One of these sessions took place at a nearby picnic site. Provided with snacks and ground mats, the groups enjoyed an intimate session of personal and bible sharing amidst the tranquil environs of the park. The refreshing morning stroll to and from the picnic grounds were both physically and spiritually rejuvenating.

Working in tandem with much sharing was time for individual and silent reflection. One such opportunity was during an exercise to pen a letter addressed to ourselves, written by the person we project to be in the future. Although the main thrust of the activity was to articulate a point of focus and a form of encouragement to arrive at our various destinations, some others took a step further to hold each other accountable to our goals by resolving to review our objectives again in another few years.

Besides faciliating us in charting our journeys, the camp committee also planned fun filled games over the three days. And being inherently competitive, the games were played with much intensity and enthusiasm which contributed to the success of the programme. One such activity was the complex and demanding obstacle course crafted by Janan our games master. For more details about what was entailed, just ask any of us who took part in it.

As usual, the final day of camp was concluded with the unveiling of the hilariously side-splitting performances which the groups have been planning over the days. Being named after popular hollywood tv series, the groups had to present a skit themed according to Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Heroes, Prison Break and finally Desparate Housewives.

And with that, we broke camp to continue to strive through the remaining half of the semester.

In charting our paths, we also look back to reflect upon what we have achieved thus far and count the milestones. Along a similar trajectory, this Easter Camp post marks the one year anniversary of this Cosdu blog. Having found the inspiration for its birth during the last Easter Camp, this blog will continue to mark and celebrate the milestones that Cosdu passes year after year.

Sit back, relax and perhaps over a cup of tea, enjoy the rest of the memories of Easter Camp 2007. (Or view the online album here)
